On Sunday, October 27th at 6:00PM we celebrated a baptism at Grace United Methodist Church in Ridgeway, WI. At Grace UMC we worship on Saturday evenings. If you know anything about our Methodist heritage, you know that baptisms are typically done in the context of a worship service because we believe that baptism is a community celebration. So how is it that we had this celebration at another time? Life!
Due to work schedules, and one sponsor going off to begin military service, this particular evening on Sunday was our best option. Please, don’t turn me in to the Methodist authorities!
Lane Evan Jones had his parents, his sponsors, and lots of family there. We had several representatives from our small church (Lois, Anna, Bruce, and Donna) who were able to offer their commitment to help Lane in his lifetime journey of faith.
We had the service upstairs in our beautiful sanctuary. We typically worship in our basement, but seized the opportunity to worship upstairs for this exciting gathering. It was a brief, but powerful celebration! Despite the pastor managing to get a little bit of water in his eye during the baptism, Lane was a champ :-).
It was a God moment, and one that I will not soon forget. Congratulations Anne, Evan, Emery, and especially Lane!
