Greetings! I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. During my university years, I sensed God’s call to respond to the brokenness of the world through the gospel of Jesus Christ. I earned a Master of Divinity from Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, where I also met my wife, Rev. Jenny Jinkyoung You.
From 2006 to 2010 we served as missionaries in the Philippines, where we also welcomed our daughter, Esther. My years there deeply shaped my ministry vision as I witnessed poverty and unjust power structures that undermine human dignity.
I have completed both a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies and a doctorate and am an ordained elder, having served in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church for 10 years. In June of 2024 we moved to Wisconsin and I began my appointment at Monona United Methodist Church.
My wife is an ordained minister and pastors churches in Brooklyn and Belleville, Wisconsin. Our daughter is a 10th grade student at Oregon High School and a violinist with the Wisconsin Youth Symphony orchestra.
I am passionate about worship, preaching, teaching, coaching, and equipping the church for God’s mission both locally and globally. In my free time, I enjoy bike riding, playing pickleball, hiking trails, and watching movies.
