In Our Right Minds

Series: General

.Sunday, January 19, 2014 | By Linda Vance

Introduction:

We come remembering that the Sabbath is the day in which the soul can receive more soul. And so we ask this morning that Christ would touch us and heal us as he did for those first disciples so long ago who had lost heart and had lost soul.

Today we will meet Jesus in the Gospel of Mark as he begins his ministry. He goes to the synagogue and is interrupted by a man who is possessed by an evil spirit. The man is not sick but overtaken by an evil spirit. He is not himself. He has lost himself and cannot undo the damage that has happened to him as evil took over his life and got a strong hold of the man's soul.

In compassion, Jesus rescues the man from what possesses him. He commands the evil spirit to depart and it does. The man receives his life back in the presence of Jesus. This gift of grace brings peace and a new life.

This Sabbath we are invited into this Gospel story so that we might meet Jesus and embrace his ministry of healing to us. May Christ give us the gift of grace so that we too might lay aside anything that would keep us from hearing his Word and in hearing, obey his will.
