Introduction:We are called by God to be holy, to love our neighbor. There was a shoe salesman who had shown a certain woman more than 25 pairs of shoes before she settled for the first pair that she had tried on. As she paid for her purchase and was leaving the store, he said to her, "Thank you for coming. I wish I had a dozen more customers like you." One of the other clerks heard him, and when the customer was gone, said, "You told her you wished you had a dozen of customers like her. Why did you say that to such an overbearing and hard to please person?" "Because it's true," said the salesman. "I have a hundred like her and I wish I had only a dozen." I read a about a children's T-ball game in which a young girl who ran with a limp. She couldn't hit the ball all that well. But everyone cheered her on. In the last game of the season she did the unthinkable. She finally got a hit. Her coach hollered at her to run the bases. She made it to first base and her coach told her to keep going. She then made it to second base. Everyone in the stands was encouraging her to keep running. While running to third base she noticed an old dog that had loped onto the field. It was sitting in the baseline between third and home. She was just seconds away from a home run. She then made a monumental decision. She knelt down and hugged the dog. She never made it to home plate. But the fans cheered her anyway. She had made her priorities clear. Love was more important than winning. |
