Crete: The Wild West of Paul's DaySeries: Laying a Christian Foundation in a Non-Christian World (2011) |
Sunday, July 24, 2011 | By Rom A. Pegram |
Introduction:
In Paul's day, one of the greatest obstacles to building Christian community was what Paul called "˜False Teachers.' We have them today, too. There are many well-meaning individuals who know just enough about the Christian faith ... to be dangerous (as some say). They have a partial understanding of what it means to follow Christ, to belong to a Christian community, and so forth. But, often these individuals who want to teach others ... barely understand Christian community themselves. So sometimes, bits and pieces that are very significant to the foundation of Christianity ... get twisted. Then, people get confused. Then, there is friction where there never should have been any... How do we guard against these "˜False Teachers?' How do we guard against anything that keeps us from being the Christian community Jesus calls us to be? Well, we're going to learn more about that ... from the Apostle Paul himself! |
