Training to Know Jesus

Series: General

.Sunday, June 10, 2012 | By Gail Ray

Introduction:

Worship. It is a complex word, rich with meaning and one of the classic Spiritual Disciples, or habits, that many authors mention. Pastor Rom preached a whole sermon series on worship, and Passionate worship is the focus of this year's ministry plan. The Bible has numerous examples of where, when, why and how we should worship God and worship is of utmost importance.
But worship alone, for one hour on Sunday morning, is not enough for us to get to know Jesus intimately. There are 168 hours in a week, so even if we worship one hour every Sunday, week after week, month after month, year after year, never missing a Sunday, that one hour is only 1/168th of the time we spend alive. A person can try really, really hard during that hour per week, but trying hard is not enough.
Getting to know Jesus, not just knowing about Jesus, is like training for an athletic competition. We have to just keep at it, with the end goal in mind and milestones along the way. And we need to do it with other people, helping each other and learning from each other. Today we will look at what this training plan looks like.
