Cultivating Contentment

Series: General

.Sunday, October 13, 2013 | By Dianne Vielhuber

Introduction:

Today's service focuses on one message on cultivating contentment. We will be exploring a story that Jesus told in Luke's gospel about a very rich man who could not be content with his wealth. Despite being terribly rich, he did not focus on how he could help others. Rather, he became preoccupied with acquiring even more wealth, which became the main focus of his life. In the end, God calls him a fool. He was so busy making a living that he forgot to make a life.
This is a hard story for us to hear because honestly, sometimes we get caught up in making a living and forget to make a life. We think, "When things settle down, then I'll ...." But when do things settle down? Can we honestly say to ourselves, "I have enough ... I'll be content with what I currently have?"
In the end, contentment comes down to two questions:
1. What supplies my soul?
2. What is my bottom line?
Together, let's explore what true contentment looks like. We won't walk out of here with all the answers, but maybe we'll begin to ask the tough questions.
