Introduction:Have you looked at the calendar recently? In just 11 days, we will be celebrating a long-standing American tradition: Thanksgiving. For many, this begins the craziness of preparing for the next big holiday of Christmas. As much as we love celebrating the holidays, they can also be overwhelming. So much energy and focus goes into all the preparation that by the time the holidays arrive, we're exhausted, overspent, overcommitted, under slept and overweight an average of 5 pounds. While technically thinking about Thanksgiving we may be a week early, our focus today is not just about Thanksgiving. Rather, our focus challenges us to think about how Christians should embody a life not of celebrating one day of Thanksgiving, but making every day a day of thanks-living. Thanks-living is more than one day of counting our blessings. It's creating space in our lives in which we pause daily to appreciate what we have much more than what we don't have. So, on this day, let's pause before the big rush towards the holidays and explore how we can embody a daily commitment of thanks-living. |
