Introduction:The Advent Season proclaims the coming of Christ into our world and into our hearts. The season is marked by a time of waiting. Waiting for God to act, waiting for God to come, and waiting for the purposes of God to unfold, all in God's own time. Today we prepare for the nativity of our Lord, as we meet the angel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary, in the Gospel story. Mary is young and unprepared for the news she is about to receive... that she is favored, and will bear a Son who will be the Savior of the world. She is greatly troubled by such news and wonders how such a thing could possibly be true. The angel comforts her and tells her that all things are possible with God for "the Holy Spirit will come upon her and the power of the Most High will overshadow her." She surrenders to God's will for her life. |
