When Forgiveness is Hard

Series: General

.Sunday, August 9, 2015 | By Jim Droste

Introduction:

In the reading that we will hear from the Book of Ephesians, we are presented with a list that offers some ways to live that reflect the highest ideals of the Christian community. Within this list is a call that we always speak the truth, that we forgive, that we love one another, and that we not allow our anger to cause us to sin. Sounds easy, right? We follow these all the time, right?

When we think about how we interact with one another, I find the THINK acronym to be a good reminder of whether or not what we are about to say is appropriate:

T- Is it true?
H - Is it helpful?
I - Is it inspiring?
N - Is it necessary?
K - Is it kind?

Helpful advice, but this morning I want to focus on what it means to forgive. How do we forgive others, especially when they have hurt us deeply? What is the limit to our capacity to forgive?

What role does forgiveness play within the Christian community?
