Why, hello there! Fancy meeting you here. Since we’ve bumped into each other, I’d like to share a thing or two about our day today. We started out with a brief tour of Temple Mount. It is an incredible place with an incredible history. Currently it is under Muslim control with the Jordanians being the ones in charge and not the Palestinians. This used to be the place where the Jewish Temple resided. This place, this mountain, this area has an incredible history that dates back to Abraham. Maybe you’ve...
Shalom from Jerusalem! Had a great day today in the City of Jerusalem. In the morning, we walked along the inside of the Western Wall of the Temple mount. The architecture that Herod the Great offered back in the time of Jesus is astounding. There were stones placed 60 feet high on Temple Mount wall that weighed over 50 tons and placed perfectly on top of one another. The walls were built without any cement or mortar or anything and you still couldn’t stick a razor between them once they...
Hello once again! What a day! We began at the top of the Mount of Olives and worked our down the side of it and ended up in the Garden if Gethsemane. If this mountain could talk, it could tell some stories! From King David fleeing from his son (2 Samuel 15:30-32; also the first mention of this being a place of worship) to Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Luke 19:29). We went from this ancient sight of worship to a modern sight of remembrance. Our next stop of the...
Shabbat Shalom Everyone, Today was Jewish Sabbath and so we were to greet the Jewish people with “Shabbat Shalom”. We had a great day as we left our hotel in Tiberias along the Sea of Galilee and turned west toward the Mediterranean coast. On our way we stopped at Tel-Megiddo. Megiddo is a fortress city that has been used by many peoples throughout history, including Solomon. Megiddo is a hill that juts out into the Valley of Armageddon. It is in a prime place to overlook the cross-roads of the...
Shabat Shalom from Tiberias, Israel! Holy Land 2013 – Last Day in Galilee Region from BMZ TV on Vimeo. We spent our second to last day in the Galilee area today. We load the buses again in the morning, tour around the area a bit more, and we’ll end up in Jerusalem by tomorrow evening (or around 10-11 am back home in Wisconsin). Our day started off by visiting Cana, the site of Jesus’ first miracle. It was here where he turned water into wine at the wedding feast. Since...
Shalom Everyone from the Galilee Region of Israel, The past two nights and for the next two nights, we are staying in a hotel in Tiberias on the shore of the Sea of Galilee (Matthew 14, Luke 3). Every time I look at the Sea, I can’t help but think of my Mom (and my Dad, for that matter). She loved this place more than any other in Israel. It has become one of my favorites (it’s still all my favorite!) for the same reasons as my Mom … Jesus...
Our day began at the top of Mount Arbel overlooking the Sea of Galilee. At this spot, we viewed the land where most of Jesus’ ministry took place. We saw from Mount Arbel and visited the Mount of the Beatitudes, Capernaum, Tagbah, the Precipice of Peter, and Bethsaida. We also took a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee where we had a time of worship and were reminded about God’s love for his people that was shown through Jesus. Shalom Everyone, Another great day in Israel as we moved north along the Dead Sea and the Negev Desert and into the Judean Wilderness. We encountered both Hyrax and Ibex along the way. We stopped at Ein Gedi to see the caves where David would have hidden from King Saul when he was out to kill David (1 Samuel 23-24). We also saw the waterfalls there that would have felt like a piece of heaven for David, who, as a shepherd boy, had to find food and water for his...
Hi Everyone and Shalom from Israel! First, we are all here and doing well. We got into the Ben-Gurion International Airport last night after a LOOOONG day/night/day in airplanes. We arrived at our hotel in the Dead Sea area at 11:30pm local time. This morning we were up at 6:30 for breakfast and on the bus at 8am to start our journey. Malcolm (our tour guide and long-time family friend), who is coming off of a year of chemo/radiation and surgeries, was in great form. Today we got to see...
